The challenge

What is the Holiday Health Challenge?

A fun, team-based, weight loss competition, designed to jump start you towards a healthier lifestyle.

Why should you opt for a team-based competition?

Our past incentive (no s) programs have proven that the path to weight loss is more successful when you have the support of your friends, family, and coworkers.  This competition gives you the opportunity to work out with your team, keep one another in line, and ultimately win lots of $$$ together!

When will it take place?

Competition begins Saturday, October 31st and ends Monday, December 28th, 2009.

Participation

Who can join?

Participants must be at least 18 years old and each team must be composed of 5 individuals.  If you can’t find a team of 5, sign up and we will assign you to a team.

How much does it cost?

Registration fee is $40

What does the registration fee include?

Besides losing weight and meeting your personal health goals, every participant receives:

  • Online wellness system for your personal tracking needs
  • Weekly newsletter with healthy tips and Plan of Goals (POG’s) for the week
  • Access to comprehensive workout library and instructions
  • Eligibility to win cash prizes. $500 for POG’s raffle winner, $1500 for final winning team
What if I don’t want to lose weight, can I still win?

Yes, you can participate by completing the Plan of Goals (POG’s) assigned each week. These are based on healthy living choices and everyone will benefit from them. Each week that you and your team members complete 80% of the POG’s you’ll be entered into a drawing. The final drawing winner receives $500.

Teams

What if we don’t have 5 people for a team?

Individuals can sign up and we will assign them to teams that do not yet have 5 people. If there are no people to assign to the team, the team will have to meet the $200 minimum team fee in order to qualify for the prize.

How do we let With-U know who our team members are?

Once all 5 team members have signed up, one member of the team needs to send an email to hhcteams@withu.org giving us the names of all the members plus a team name.

Weigh-ins and tracking results

How do I report my progress?

Every individual participant must log their weight on the website after each weigh-in. We will only use the weight logged online for prizes and drawings. Weight results can be logged in the member's section under Results / Logs. For more information on doing this please see the Quickstart guide or the complete user guide under the Help section.

When and where will the weigh-ins take place?
  • Bi-weekly weigh-ins will take place at Runners High in Irvine between 10am and 4pm.
  • Weigh-in dates: Oct. 31st, Nov 14th, Nov 28th, Dec. 12th, Dec 28th.
  • Please wear the same clothes to weigh-in each time.  T-shirts and shorts are recommended.
  • Optional:  Bring a camera to take your before photos.
  • Your privacy is important to us so weigh-ins will be private and your individual weight will not be disclosed.
Do you have alternate weigh-in dates?

We do offer alternate weigh-in dates for the beginning and end of the program. If you plan on coming to one of these please send us an email so we know to wait for you and have the scale there:

After the Rough-Fit Outdoor Fitness class on the following dates and times:

November 2nd - 6th at the Tustin Sports Park - 7am
or
November 2nd and 4th at Cedar Grove Park - 7pm.

If you can't make the last weigh-in:

Dec 21st, 22nd, or 23rd at the Tustin Sports Park - 7am
or
Dec 21st and 23rd at at Cedar Grove Park - 7pm.

REMINDER: Please let us know that you will be there and don't be late. Due to their training schedules our trainers will only wait for 15 minutes.

Do we have to be at the weigh-ins as a group at the same time?

No. You can come at different times - you can even do it on different days if someone from your team has to take advantages of one of the alternate days. The important thing is that everyone remembers to log their weight online when they get home so that when we pull the results we see your whole team's results.

What happens if I can’t weigh in during the times and dates?

The two most important weigh-in’s are the first and last. Obviously we would love everyone to be able to weigh in so that they can qualify for the bi-weekly prizes but we understand that some people may be travelling and out of town. We have made arrangements for individuals to weigh in the first and last weeks at alternate locations after a Rough-Fit class but this is only for first and final weigh in. If you are being managed by a “Preferred Trainer”, please contact your trainer to discuss your schedule. Preferred Trainers will accommodate their clients per their policy and can only accommodate weigh-ins before a regular weigh in date (except for the first weigh in). No weights will be accepted after the official weekly weigh in date.

I don’t live in Orange County and want to participate, how does the weigh in work?

Please contact a With-U coach (info@withu.org) who will work with you to identify a Preferred Trainer remote weigh in program.

POG's (Plan of Goals)

What is a POG?

A pog is a plan of goals – it’s a weekly goal that is designed to help you make better choices.

What is an example of a POG?
  • Each week you will receive 2 types of POG’s, an exercise POG and a lifestyle POG.
  • An example of an exercise POG would be to increase your current daily activity by 5 minutes.
  • An example of a lifestyle POG would be to eat at least 3 veggies daily 5 days a week.
What is a Group POG versus an individual POG?

A Group POG is the POG (goals) that we enter for you each week. An individual POG is a POG that you enter for yourself. If you look at your POGs in the calendar view you will see a column for Type of POG.

  • E = Exercise (this is what you'll see next to your own individual POGs)
  • L = Lifestyle
  • GE = Group Exercise (so this is a group POG that we entered for the challenge)
  • GL = Group Lifestyle (a Lifestyle POG that we entered for the challenge)
If I don't enter or complete individual POGs, how does that affect my team?

It doesn't. For the drawings and prizes we will ONLY be looking at the group POGs that we enter for you every week. You are welcome to also enter your own POGs but those will not be counted for this challenge.
